Dallas County Dental Society (DCDS) members and their partners donated more than $27,000 in free dental services to patients in need at their 2015 “Dentists with a Heart” Day last year.
Organized in conjunction with support from the Mesquite Rotary Club, the event was hosted at the offices of Dr. Byron McKnight and Dr. Ken Taylor in Mesquite. Drs. McKnight and Taylor were joined by Dr. Richard Lepard, Dr. Nathan Hodges, Dr. Ron Bosher and Dr. Sloan Hildebrand to offer free oral healthcare services to fifty low-income individuals.
As the local chapter of the American Dental Association, DCDS supports and promotes philanthropic events organized to offer oral healthcare services to low-income families. Nationally, millions of impoverished children suffer from tooth decay and other oral health issues. Charitable events such as “Dentists with a Heart” allow dental health professionals an organized opportunity to help many of these children each year.
Also in 2015, DCDS hosted a Texas Mission of Mercy event in Dallas in April where volunteer dentists and community members helped treat nearly 1,000 patients ($591,000 in treatments) over two days. We hold smaller charitable partnerships and events throughout the year, but the need in the Dallas community is significant. DCDS members, along with Dallas County Dental Society Foundation continue to pursue partnerships with dentists, companies, and non-profit organizations in the area to support initiatives that encourage better health in our community.
