In 2019, Dallas County Dental Society will open DCDS Dental Assisting School (DCDSDAS). This state-of-the-art clinical facility will provide a full hands-on laboratory, digital radiography (x-rays) and a sterilization and infection control area allow for a comprehensive learning experience essential to becoming a successful dental assistant. It will also house a technology-rich Learning Center which will produce original and beneficial continuing education programs.
DCDS members will be presented with first opportunities to hire fully trained world-class dental assistants from a future graduating class; and our members will also gain access to videos/podcasts of presentations that include emerging dental technologies, innovative procedures and live surgeries.

DCDSDAS Program Content
DCDSDAS will provide foundational knowledge to prepare students to satisfy additional training and testing requirements of the Texas State of Dental Examiners in:
- Dental assistant registration including making x-rays,
- Monitoring nitrous oxide conscious sedation,
- Pit and fissure sealants, and
- Coronal polishing.
Through our comprehensive curriculum at the DCDS Dental Assisting School, students will engage in topics such as:
- Oral health and nutrition,
- Head and neck anatomy,
- Dental charting,
- Restorative materials,
- Pharmacology and anesthesia, and
- Dental specialties.
Our students learn dental assisting skills through a variety of methods, including lectures, hands-on lab work, and clinical experience in:
- Digital radiography,
- Infection control,
- Digital records (Dentrix and Eaglesoft),
- Pouring and trimming models,
- Equipment maintenance,
- Teeth whitening, and
- Emergency management.
Before graduating, students will also gain experience through an externship program and will be coached on resume writing, interviewing and professional demeanor.
