Dallas County Dental Society (DCDS) encourages members to give back through volunteering their time to help serve communities in need. Through events and programs like Dentists with a Heart, Texas Mission of Mercy and our DCDS Dental Missions Database, we aim to meet the need here in the U.S. and worldwide.
Our members are passionate about giving back, and it shows. They go above and beyond by donating their time and talents to provide support state-side as well as across the globe. In February 2015, DCDS member Dr. Oksana Budinskaya (Clinical Associate Professor of Oral Diagnosis at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry) led a group of students on trip to Mayette, Haiti. During the trip, the group performed over 200 extractions and 220 placed sealants. The experience was one that truly resonated with one dental student in attendance.
Federico Castillo, a D4 dental student from Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry, made the trek to Haiti along with several other students and one faculty member.
“I developed a passion for mission dentistry, and I will be furthering my education to become an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon,” said Castillo. “I hope that I have an opportunity to provide countries with surgical service once I finish training.”
The impact this type of philanthropy has in these communities is immeasurable. DCDS members’ dedication to providing access to oral health care means that those most in need aren’t forced to go without quality care.
The care and compassion that our members have for these causes is equal to the care and compassion they provide to their everyday patients. That’s why we encourage Dallas-area patients to choose a dentist that is a DCDS member: because they are held to the highest standard of patient care. #IsYourDentistAMember?
